The suit was filed Friday.
PRIME Hydration, a company/brand founded by Logan Paul and K.S.I. is being sued by the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee. The committee notes that Coca-Cola have the exclusive right to use Olympic trademarks such as ‘Olympic, Team USA, Olympian’ and ‘Going for the Gold’ on beverages in the USA.
The 2024 Olympic Games in Paris are set to kick off on July 26th and the committee pointed out that PRIME Hydration has been using the aforementioned trademarks and others to promote their brand. This was done without permission.
The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado. They are accusing PRIME of ‘willful’ and ‘blatant’ trademark infringement. The committee is seeking all of the profits that PRIME obtained from the products that included the trademarks in addition to ‘millions of dollars’ in damages that’ll be determined at trial.
In particular, the suit focused in on a PRIME drink that features NBA Phoenix Suns star forward, Kevin Durant, who’s a member of Team USA’s men’s basketball roster. The promotional material for the specific drink included trademarks that are all owned by the committee.
On July 10th, a lawyer from the committee reached out to PRIME Hydration and asked them to stop using the trademarks, but they continued to roll out the material and promote it online. Per the suit, Coca-Cola made a ‘significant monetary contribution’ for the exclusive right to use the trademarks. That sponsorship deal helps fund the U.S. Olympic team and it is being threatened if other companies are using it without permission.
Paul is a member of the WWE talent roster and on August 3rd, he’ll be in action at SummerSlam in his home state of Ohio to defend the United States Championship against L.A. Knight.
