It is a match that means a lot to Celeste.
The newest interview that Developmentally Speaking rolled out is an hour-long conversation with former WWE Divas Champion Celeste Bonin a.k.a. Kaitlyn.
As their conversation moved along, Bonin brought up her on-screen feud with A.J. Mendez (A.J. Lee) and specifically highlighted the match they had at Payback 2013. She named that as the match of her career.
A.J. (Lee) and I started having all of our feud and storyline stuff that it definitely picked back up but it was more towards the end of my title run and the match where I lost the title to A.J. at that pay-per-view was the match of my career, and for many, many reasons. Many reasons but, it was just so significant and such a symbol of everything that I had gone through, everything that I had worked for and to have that with her and you know, we’re really close. We had gone through a lot together and a lot behind closed doors, a lot of struggle and for us to have that match and for it to feel the way that it felt and to have the outcome that it did have, it was like a dream come true. It was the best match of my career. It’s funny, the best match of my career is when I was losing the title but it was just so significant, especially for her to be winning the title after her whole story and what wrestling is for her and the impact she’s had on the industry. So it was just, like, so valuable. Such a highly valuable moment in my life.
The last time Bonin wrestled was in 2019. Back in 2018, she participated in WWE’s Mae Young Classic tournament and made it to the second round.
Bonin reiterated in this media appearance that she’s open to the idea of returning to the ring.
