Dream Slam Monthly (Vol. 19) WWE Returns to Japan

By the time you’re enjoying this month’s installment of DSM, The Final Boss herself– Meiko Satomura – will have challenged Bayley for the WWE Women’s Championship on the third and final night of WWE’s first tour of Japan in five years. Her participation in a trio of Supershows celebrating WWE’s return to Japan marks the first appearance of Satomura in a WWE ring since her defeat against Roxanne Perez in March 2023. She teamed with Takumi Iroha against Team 200KG (Chihiro Hashimoto & Yuu) at Fortune Dream 9 in June. 

Earlier this week, rumors surfaced about a potential retirement from Satomura, especially with less than a year before the thirtieth anniversary of her debut in pro wrestling. While Satomura has yet to confirm such, challenging for Bayley on the final night of the three-stop Japan tour could possibly lead to further details. If you have yet to see Satomura’s work in WWE, I would recommend chasing her work in NXT UK and that of the Mae Young Classic. It does make me wonder if we’ll ever get to see her participate in a Royal Rumble or WrestleMania.

STARDOM’s HANAKO will head to the US for an excursion, including participating in the NJPW Academy Showcase on August 3rd, her MLW debut on August 29th, and a singles match against Trish Adora at NJPW’s Capitol Collision in Washington DC on August 30th. She will have a send-off match against Mayu Iwatani today during their first of two shows in Sapporo. 

TJPW’s Miyu Yamashita continues her American tour dates with a stop against Delmi Exo at MLW’s Summer of the Beasts on August 29th and against WWE’s Shayna Bazler at Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport on this Sunday! 

Stephanie Vaquer turned heads after her departure from CMLL and NJPW, turning around to work WWE’s Mexico Summer Super series of shows. She may be bound for NXT, but NXT Women’s Champion, Roxanne Perez, already has her name at the top of her list alongside Giulia. With her loss of the NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship to Mercedes Moné and the quick turnaround, Willow Nightingale defeated Viva Van and Lluvia at Fantastica Mania USA to claim the vacant CMLL Women’s World Championship.

As mentioned on POST PURORESU and my G1 coverage episodes, next month’s Dream Slam Monthly (Vol. 20; August 2024) will be available on September 6th as I will be on vacation between 8/22-9/2. Hopefully, I won’t have to catch up on too much after ten days off the grid, but with tournament season continuing into September once more, I am curious to see where the journey will take us next.

I am very curious to see how Netflix interprets the career of Dump Matsumoto when they release Queen of the Villains on September 19th.
