TV RATINGS: WWE SmackDown & AEW Rampage against Summer Olympics

Friday Night SmackDown performed better against the Olympics this past weekend while AEW Rampage fell to its lowest audience in history.

The August 2 episode of SmackDown on the night before SummerSlam averaged 2,179,000 viewers and 791,000 (0.60) in the 18-49 demographic, per Programming Insider and Wrestlenomics.

The show increased by six percent in overall viewership and sixteen percent among the core demo from last week’s show airing against the opening ceremonies.

SmackDown ranked fourth in overall viewership and second in the demo behind the Summer Olympics, which averaged 13,112,000 viewers and 2.29 in the demo on NBC in prime time.

SmackDown included two title matches and was headlined by Jacob Fatu & Tama Tonga winning the championships from DIY.

Canadian figures are delayed due to the holiday on Monday.

AEW Rampage dropped to 209,000 viewers and 92,000 (0.07) in the 18-49 demographic on TNT, which was its lowest overall viewership in history and tied its lowest 18-49 audience with two other episodes.

The audience declined by 32 percent and the 18-49 audience experienced a 28 percent drop from the previous week.

The episode aired against the final hour of NBC’s coverage of the Summer Olympics and countered with a show featuring Private Party vs. MxM Collection in the main event.
